Real Madrid are reportedly gearing up to make a formal offer for yet another Liverpool standout, following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s expected move to the Spanish giants. The Merengues, keen to bolster their defensive ranks, have secured Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer this summer as he becomes a free agent. However, they are now turning their attention to Liverpool’s midfield dynamo, Alexis Mac Allister.
With Dani Carvajal nearing the twilight of his career, Real Madrid have identified Alexander-Arnold as their primary choice for the right-back position. Yet, negotiations are needed if they aim to integrate him into their squad before this June’s Club World Cup. Liverpool still have him under contract until the 30th of June, meaning an agreement must be reached for an early arrival. The unusual nature of this potential early signing leaves uncertainty about whether he will be eligible for the group stage or join later during the knockout phase, which kicks off on June 28.
In recent months, rumours of interest from Real Madrid have not been limited to Alexander-Arnold. Mac Allister, an integral part of Liverpool’s midfield since his £35 million plus add-ons move from Brighton in 2023, has also drawn attention. Despite this, the World Cup winner remains respectful and focused on his current club duties. “I have a lot of respect for the club and I don’t think it’s necessary to talk about other institutions,” Mac Allister commented, acknowledging that while rumours persist, his focus lies with his performances on the field.
Nevertheless, a report from Empire of the Kop has stirred speculation, indicating that Real Madrid are preparing a substantial bid for Mac Allister as part of a long-term plan to rejuvenate their midfield with an eye on him as a successor to Luka Modric. The bid could reach as much as €90 million (£76.4m), with the player reportedly open to the idea of a switch to LaLiga. Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be monitoring the situation closely. However, Liverpool, valuing Mac Allister’s contribution, are determined to retain him. The midfielder is under contract until 2028 and is viewed as a cornerstone of manager Arne Slot’s squad.
Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp continues to be linked with a return to management, while disciplinary matters and potential squad changes are ongoing at Anfield as they look to strengthen in the summer transfer window.
