In a dramatic twist to the transfer saga surrounding Napoli star Victor Osimhen, Al-Hilal have reportedly tabled a £59 million offer as they engage in discussions with the Nigerian forward over personal terms. This proposed figure falls short of Osimhen’s rumoured release clause, pegged at €75 million (£63 million).
The Saudi Pro League outfit have earmarked Osimhen as their primary target in their hunt for a top-tier striker, following unsuccessful attempts to secure Mohamed Salah and Bruno Fernandes. Meanwhile, Chelsea have maintained their interest in the Nigerian international. However, sources close to Football Spectator claim that the Stamford Bridge side are apprehensive about meeting Osimhen’s hefty wage demands, which proved to be a stumbling block in the past transfer window.
Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Napoli now faces a decision over Al-Hilal’s bid, which reportedly comprises a guaranteed €60 million (£55 million) with an additional €5 million (£4 million) in potential add-ons. GiveMeSport reports that while Osimhen is receptive to the idea of moving to the Riyadh-based club, he has yet to relay this inclination to his current employers, Napoli. The player is believed to be contemplating an offer worth nearly €30 million (£25 million) per annum from Al-Hilal, translating to around €577,000 (£486,000) a week, a sum Chelsea is unlikely to match due to their stringent wage structure.
Despite previously falling short in their pursuit of Osimhen two years ago, Al-Hilal remains optimistic about securing his signature this time around. The club has set a Friday deadline for Osimhen’s decision, maintaining cautious optimism about reaching a resolution. Should negotiations falter over the transfer fee, Al-Hilal appear prepared to activate Osimhen’s release clause, though Napoli are expected to demand a full valuation in any agreement.
