Joao Pedro’s future at Brighton looks increasingly uncertain after reports emerged of a training ground altercation with teammate Jan Paul van Hecke — prompting suggestions the £59m-rated forward could be on the move this summer. Premier League giants Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea are all monitoring the situation closely.
The 22-year-old Brazilian, who joined Brighton from Watford last year, has been one of the Seagulls’ standout performers this season, contributing goals and flair in equal measure. However, tensions behind the scenes have now thrust him into the spotlight for the wrong reasons.
Pedro was a surprise omission from Brighton’s matchday squad for their thrilling 3-2 win over Liverpool on Monday. Manager Fabian Hürzeler cited “private reasons” for his absence — but according to The Athletic, the forward was left out after clashing with Van Hecke in a fiery training session.
Sources close to the club suggest the incident was more than just a minor disagreement, with tempers reportedly flaring and the coaching staff forced to intervene. While the dust has since settled, Pedro’s future at the Amex now appears far from secure.
Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has added further fuel to the fire by claiming Pedro “can leave Brighton” this summer, should a suitable offer arrive. The Seagulls are believed to be willing to do business at around £59 million — the fee inserted as a release clause when Pedro penned his long-term contract last year.
This revelation has not gone unnoticed by the Premier League’s elite. Liverpool are long-time admirers of Pedro and could view him as a natural heir to Roberto Firmino, blending Brazilian flair with Premier League experience. Under Arne Slot, the Reds are expected to reinforce their attacking options, particularly after questions arose over the future of Darwin Núñez.
Arsenal, too, have been tracking Pedro’s progress. Mikel Arteta is keen to add depth and versatility to his front line as the Gunners prepare for another title push. Pedro’s ability to play across the forward line makes him an attractive prospect at the Emirates.
Chelsea, never far from the conversation when a young talent becomes available, are also believed to be interested. With Christopher Nkunku struggling with injuries and Nicolas Jackson yet to fully convince, Pedro could offer Mauricio Pochettino a more dynamic alternative.
For Brighton, the situation presents a dilemma. Pedro is one of their most valuable assets, but if relations within the squad are fraying, a summer sale might be the cleanest resolution. The club have shown in recent years — with the sales of Marc Cucurella, Yves Bissouma, and Moisés Caicedo — that they’re not afraid to cash in when the timing suits.
With the summer transfer window looming and top clubs circling, Joao Pedro’s days on the south coast may well be numbered. His next destination could be one of English football’s grandest stages.
