Arsenal legend Ian Wright has highlighted the urgent need for the Gunners to bolster their squad with a trio of pivotal signings during the upcoming summer transfer window. Following another season devoid of silverware, Mikel Arteta and technical director Andrea Berta are keenly strategising their next moves ahead of the transfer market’s official opening on 1st June. Sources indicate that Arsenal is poised for significant activity in the coming months, recognising that substantial reinforcements are essential for a serious challenge in the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.
In a discussion on the Seaman Says Podcast, via Betway, Wright emphasised that Arsenal’s requirements extend beyond the acquisition of a prolific striker. Although the club has been associated with names such as Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko, and Alexander Isak, no formal approach has been made as yet.
“The real key is adding to the mental strength already embedded within the squad,” Wright remarked. “There’s talk of Martin Zubimendi, Gyokeres, possibly Sesko. Whoever it may be, we certainly need a leading striker, an additional forward, and possibly a backup centre-half. I was keen on us signing Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth, but Real Madrid seized the opportunity swiftly.”
Wright also noted the need for fortune in terms of injuries and decisions from officials, referencing a desire for improved accountability from PGMOL. Despite these challenges, he remained optimistic. “We’re on the cusp, and although three second-place finishes have been frustrating, they are part of the journey. Once we cross that line, such setbacks will pale into insignificance.”
As reported by Football Spectator, Arsenal’s transfer targets include a back-up goalkeeper, defender, defensive midfielder, striker, and potentially a wide forward. A deal for Zubimendi is reportedly nearing completion, with ongoing discussions surrounding Gyokeres and Sesko.
Should Arsenal manage to secure these signings, Wright is confident his former club has what it takes to clinch the Premier League title next season. “I genuinely believe Arsenal can win the league. We’ve been unlucky with injuries and certain decisions, but with the right additions, the team will be invigorated. I’m backing Arsenal to emerge victorious.”
Wright acknowledged the increased competition expected from the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, and a Champions League-bound Chelsea. Nevertheless, his faith in Arsenal’s potential remains unshaken, predicting a determined title challenge come the new season.
