Manchester United are cautiously optimistic that Marcus Rashford’s revitalised form during his loan spell at Aston Villa could bolster his transfer market value this summer.
In a surprising turn of events in January, Rashford was loaned to Villa after United manager Ruben Amorim sidelined the forward, questioning his commitment and work ethic. However, Rashford has found his rhythm at Villa Park, contributing three goals and five assists in just 14 appearances.
Aston Villa hold an option to make the deal permanent for £40 million, and with manager Unai Emery keen on keeping Rashford in Birmingham, it seems likely they will activate the clause. Nonetheless, if Villa were to reconsider, Manchester United remain hopeful that Rashford’s impressive performances will either persuade the Midlands club to meet their £50 million valuation or attract rival interest.
This optimism follows talks with Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who envisions recouping approximately £130 million from player sales, including Rashford’s. However, with Villa’s agreed option at £40 million, obtaining an additional £10 million for Rashford remains unlikely. Other potential suitors could also leverage the existing clause to negotiate down United’s aspirations.
While the prospects of Rashford returning to Old Trafford appear slim, a possibility remains if negotiations fall through. Multiple outlets report that Rashford and Amorim’s relationship at United has deteriorated to the point where a summer parting seems inevitable. However, the Daily Star has suggested that ‘showdown talks’ might take place if Villa decline their purchase option, aiming to mend the fractured rapport.
Regardless of a Villa purchase, Manchester United maintain their intent to sell Rashford, albeit facing the potential scenario of him remaining at the club if no suitable offers arise.
