Victor Osimhen, currently on loan at the Turkish behemoths Galatasaray, is once again the subject of intense Premier League speculation as Chelsea and Manchester United signal strong interest in the prolific striker.
The Nigerian international has long been on the radar for a move to the English top flight, having distinguished himself as one of Europe’s elite forwards. Previously, Napoli held firm in their retention of Osimhen, resisting transfer overtures by placing a steep price tag on the player. However, a change in dynamics at the Italian club, which saw a falling out between Osimhen and the club’s hierarchy leading to the acquisition of former Chelsea and Man Utd star Romelu Lukaku, has reopened the door for Osimhen’s departure.
Despite links to Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain last summer, no permanent deal materialised, and Osimhen found himself plying his trade in Turkey on a short-term basis. With 28 goals in 32 appearances, he has reaffirmed his status as one of the continent’s leading marksmen, although Galatasaray are unlikely to secure his services permanently due to burgeoning interest from Europe’s heavyweight clubs.
The Premier League is expected to be a hotbed of activity for striker acquisitions this summer, with Arsenal and Liverpool joining Chelsea and Manchester United in the hunt for firepower at the front. An ESPN report highlights that Osimhen “favours” a move to either England or the Italian giants Juventus, amidst a €65 million (£56 million) valuation.
While Chelsea and Manchester United are noted suitors, United are reportedly considering Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap as a more economical alternative, particularly as they aim to reduce their wage expenditure this summer. Osimhen’s demands are said to be in the region of €11 million annually after tax, a figure that poses a significant outlay for potential suitors.
Nevertheless, Chelsea’s historical interest and their quest for a talismanic forward could see them vying aggressively for Osimhen’s signature, as Premier League clubs look to bolster their attacking options ahead of next season.
