The Premier League has been put on high alert after Liverpool secured the services of Mohamed Salah for an additional two years. Nottingham Forest’s defender Ola Aina humorously declared that the “league is finished” and suggested that “everyone’s in trouble” following the announcement of Salah’s contract extension.
Salah’s future at Liverpool had been uncertain for some time. In a candid interview following a Sky Sports Premier League fixture earlier this season, he hinted that he was “more out than in,” sparking fears about the status of his contract negotiations.
Interest from the affluent Saudi Pro League loomed large, as they were poised to offer Salah enticing financial packages. However, Liverpool fans’ hopes were lifted on Friday when the club confirmed that their Egyptian talisman had committed to fresh terms—a decision that was reportedly Salah’s intention all along before any potential departure.
Reacting to the news, Aina, who is renowned for his witty online presence, shared a light-hearted video suggesting the rest of the Premier League should brace themselves. “Has he signed? Mohamed has signed again? The league is finished! It is dead!” Aina proclaimed with playful exaggeration.
“He signed on? Everyone’s in trouble! He signed on again! Bloody hell…” he jested.
Interestingly, Nottingham Forest have fared relatively well against Salah this season. In their two encounters, the Egyptian played the entirety of a 1-0 defeat to the Midlanders and was kept at bay in a 1-1 draw. Apart from these matches, Salah has only been unable to influence proceedings in four other Premier League games this term, against Crystal Palace, Brentford, Everton, and Fulham.
Aina and his teammates will certainly hope they can maintain their commendable defensive record against Salah in the coming seasons, yet silencing a player boasting 32 goals and 22 assists across all competitions is a daunting challenge.
In related news, it’s been noted by Fabrizio Romano that Liverpool are also moving to extend Virgil van Dijk’s tenure, although the club has not officially communicated this agreement yet.
