In spite of a disheartening 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, Manchester United are reportedly maintaining their support for manager Ruben Amorim. The defeat in Bilbao marked another low point in what has been a challenging season for the Red Devils since Amorim’s mid-season appointment in November.
Insiders from Old Trafford insisted prior to the match that there was no intention to replace Amorim, and this stance remains unchanged even after the loss. United’s hierarchy, including Sir Jim Ratcliffe and several members of the Glazer family, were present at the San Mames stadium to witness the defeat, yet remain steadfast in their backing of the Portuguese gaffer.
Amorim, who was coaxed into joining United ahead of schedule by CEO Omar Berrada, previously expressed a willingness to part ways without seeking compensation if the club’s view of his capability altered. After the final, he reiterated this sentiment, stating, “If the board and fans feel that I am not the right guy, I will go in the next day without any conversation about compensation, but I will not quit.”
Despite the setback against Spurs, Amorim’s commitment to his role appears unwavering, as he insists on maintaining his approach. “I am really confident in my job and as you see I will not change anything in the way I do things,” he added.
The defeat to Tottenham is undeniably another blow in United’s tumultuous season, but the club’s leadership appears to remain committed to the Amorim project, allowing him the opportunity to recover and build for the future. As fans await to see how the remainder of the season unfolds, the spotlight remains on Amorim as he seeks to navigate the storm and restore Manchester United to former glories.
