In a bold and ambitious move, Nottingham Forest are reportedly preparing to shatter their transfer record in a bid to secure the services of Wolves striker Matheus Cunha for a fee exceeding £60 million—a move that would nearly double their highest-ever outlay.
Cunha has been one of the standout performers in the Premier League this season, despite Wolves battling at the bottom end of the table. With a remarkable tally of 13 goals, only seven players have surpassed his total, and all represent clubs in the upper half of the table, while Wolves languish in 17th place.
Back in January, Cunha was already attracting attention from top-tier clubs such as Arsenal and Manchester United. Nottingham Forest’s interest in the Brazilian forward emerged as a surprise during that period. However, Cunha then committed his future to Wolves by signing a new contract that includes a release clause set at just over £60 million.
Despite the uncertainties of maintaining their strong league position, Forest remain third in the Premier League standings and are on the cusp of a historic Champions League qualification. According to reports from TBRFootball, the club is eager to emphasise its ambitious nature by making a serious attempt to bring Cunha to the City Ground.
Acquiring Cunha for a sum surpassing £60 million would see the club nearly doubling their previous record transfer fee of £35 million spent on Elliot Anderson last summer. Although Morgan Gibbs-White’s potential value could surpass this amount, it is largely dependent on add-ons that are yet to be fully realised.
This prospective acquisition reflects the club’s determination to return to the upper echelons of English football. Nottingham Forest has laid a solid foundation for success, and breaking their transfer record sets a clear marker of their lofty aspirations.
The understanding is that Cunha would be receptive to the switch, with regular communication maintained between Forest and the player’s representatives, despite his recent contract renewal with Wolves.
Adding to the intrigue, Forest have also been linked with a move for Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres, who is reportedly interested in the prospect of joining the Midlands club. While it remains uncertain whether Forest will land both forwards, such moves underscore their intent.
